Abstract: This is a retrospective observational study carried out in Granada with patients receiving acenocoumarol, warfarin, dabigatran, rivaroxaban or apixaban during a 3-year follow-up period in order to assess the incidence of stroke in these patients and to determine whether there are statistically significant differences between patients taking acenocoumarol or warfarin and those treated with NACOs (dabigatran, rivaroxaban or apixaban). The safety of treatment with NACOs in these patients measured as episodes of major and non-major bleeding clinically relevant according to the ICD9 classification is also studied, as well as the influence of the different comorbidities in these patients. In this study we may conclude that the type of oral anticoagulant used does not present significant differences in relation to the onset of stroke, while the risk of major and minor bleeding does depend on the treatment used, being lower with the NACOs.
