Abstract: More than half of the world's population is infected with one or more species of intestinal worms, More precisely Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura and hookworm nematodes are the are the most prevalent and important in terms of child morbidity. Intestinal helminths are well known for altering intestinal physiology, permeability, mucous secretion and the production of antimicrobial peptides. This might have a significant impact on intestinal microbiota and its spatial organization. Since intestinal helminths and bacteria inhabit the same environmental niche, these organisms are likely to interact and impact each other. This paper analyses the situation of intestinal "menage à trois" between helminths, microbiome and nutrition. Therefore, we will study the impact on growth and nutrition exerted by intestinal helminths, mainly in the child population; as well as the evidence on the relationship of helminths with the intestinal microbiota and the influence of microbiota and intestinal helminths on nutrition and host immunity. The results show that both intestinal helminth infections and malnutrition significantly affect the intestinal microbiota, and, in turn, the immune system, making these parasitosis a global health problem. Likewise, we assume that this helminth-microbiota relationship and interaction could allow the same microbiota to be manipulated nutritionally to reduce the morbidity associated with malnutrition.
