Abstract: Present-day society appears deeply entrenched in a discourse the feminine, which developed during the 18th century, has persistently made headway by means of images. Through the work of the painter Paul Gauguin this study shows that confinement of women in the domestic space and the supposed relation with other elements is fruit of the same ideology that confines women to private space and men to public space.
