Abstract: The emergence of social networks as a tool for protest, dissidence and mobilization has demonstrated the capacity for appropriation of new technological resources, expression and organization of classical activism, which would have been reinforced. Wireless communications were an effective mechanism for organization and mobilization within the pro-independence referendum (of October 1, 2017). The networks became the loudspeakers of two opposing versions of history: one of denial and the other of reaffirmation of the sovereignty movement. Even so, social networks, more than a truly transformative element, have served to amplify two opposing stories: one that criminalizes the movement by treating it as unconstitutional and violent, and the other that defends its legitimacy and non-violent character. We are witnessing the clash of two mediatized narratives that seek to monopolize the state of opinion.
