Abstract: This work looks at the life of Julius Caesar within the context of the collapse of the Roman Republic and the Civil War. His life provides the thread of the narrative. There are also decontextualized analyses of his life (the struggle between optimates and populares, the extraordinary mandates, the figure of the Tribunes of the People, and Roman imperialism), which are necessary for an understanding of the development of Rome from Republic to Principality.
