Abstract: The Spanish airspace is divided into 3 flight information regions. One of these regions is called FIR Canary. This Region is defined by its size and abrupt orography and in addition to encompassing the Canary archipelago it includes a large area of the Atlantic Ocean. For efficient airspace management, VHF Ground / Air communication centers are used, along with other aeronautical systems. This allows air traffic controllers to establish communications with pilots of the different aircraft in the FIR they manage. Depending on the phase of the flight, the system provides G/A communications for route control and G/A communications for approach control. There are two types of configurations for communication centers: Single frequency configuration, with a single communication center and configuration in offset carriers, where there are 2 or 3 centers with the same frequency. The use of the offset carrier configuration generates interferences between receptions with a similar level in the areas where the coverage of these 2 or 3 centers overlap. In addition, duplication of locations is usually available, in other words, there is a primary and alternative location. To solve the previously described problems, new locations will be proposed to analyze the possibility of eliminating the offset carrier configuration and alternative locations, where they do not exist, will be proposed. In addition, migration to VoIP technology will be considered, providing greater flexibility to the system, allowing, among other advantages, sharing of radio resources between different dependencies or forwarding of communications to contingency centers.
