Abstract: | The present work shows a theoretical discussion on two state-of-the-art educational trends: educational robotics and the maker movement in education. The use of robots or other similar electronic devices in the classroom, as well as the development of the devices themselves, are part of different didactic dynamics that are supported by these trends. They usually concern both the design and the manufacture of the devices. They are usually characterized by the presence of several techno-pedagogical instruction paradigms such as hands-on mind-on learning, DIY, FabLab, digital fabrication or tangible programming languages. These methodologies can be applied in all kinds of instructional contexts, with all kinds of training objectives, and focused on all kinds of contents. This work provides a review of the state of the art of both concepts in order to identify the main aspects analyzed by the scientific literature and the reached conclusions. Furthermore, after detecting the absence of exhaustive studies on the relationship between the two paradigms, this document analyzes joint implementations, how they affect each other, and how they affect the cognitive results. Hence, this document aims to become a reference reading for anyone interested in getting started into these two current trends and willing to know the different approaches to the subject available in the scientific literature. |
