Abstract: There are a large number of virtual groups devoted to maternity (and paternity), with some of these having a high degree of participation. In the case of maternal breastfeeding, the lack of social and family support, as well as the lack of information, or contradictory information received by mothers, including from their pediatrician, cause us to think that these groups may be a resource to take into account in attempting to obtain the support and control necessary to successfully breastfeed children. The objective of this study is to observe how some of these groups work, through participant observation, paying special attention to two specific aspects: the balance between the informative function and the support function, and what I have defines as 'economy of truth'.
