Abstract: The evolution of air traffic in recent years has steadily increased, and it raises the need to evolve air traffic management from a model based on costly terrestrial infrastructures to advanced systems that allow more flexibility, based on satellite technology. In this scenario, the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS), a satellite-based augmentation system, uses the GPS civilian signal at the L1 frequency to provide corrections and integrity information for improving positioning in the European region. The EGNOS Safety of Life (SoL) service has been specifically designed to meet the stringent requirements applicable to civil aviation, supporting aircrafts for all phases of flight. The purpose of this document is to study the performance offered by the system in aeronautical operations, where it enables the implementation of EGNOS based approach procedures down to LPV minima. It analyses the main benefits, limitations and factors involved in its implementation, using EBCAST assessment tool regarding the introduction of LPV operations. The use of new technologies, such as cloud computing or 5G networks, and their potential contribution are studied and results are presented about cloudbased architecture cases, using the EGNOS Data Access Service (EDAS), which makes EGNOS data accessible to users over the Internet.
