Abstract: Institutional accreditation involves a change in the scope of the evaluation that places the internal quality assurance system (IQAS) at the heart of the evaluation. Universities must demonstrate that they have an effective and mature IQAS in order to obtain institutional accreditation. In this new context, the revision of the IQAS becomes an essential process for the universities to verify its operation and guarantee the quality of their programs. This paper addresses the IQAS review process through the analysis of the processes and review reports of some universities in Catalonia. The key elements of the IQAS review in Catalan universities have been identified through the content analysis technique. In that way, have been detected its weaknesses and strengths. The results of the analysis have been used to offer the centers guidelines as a tool for support and advice in the IQAS review process.
