Abstract: A study of the choral movement in Catalonia from an anthropological and social point of view. It emphasizes the role of the repertoires of choral works and the way in which these repertoires reflect the social and cultural history of the world of choral singing in Catalonia. A study of a microcosm: the Orfeó de les Corts, its musical career, and its career as an entity in the last 50 years in Barcelona. An analysis is offered of what lies beyond the choir in itself: the kind of music, the fact of singing in a group, the sorts of associations, the origin of the choir, its objectives and philosophy, the concerns of the singers, and the preferences of the conductors, in order to cover the social and musical dynamic of the choral movement.
