Abstract: The rigorous data record in Health Social Work (HSW) has been considered to be an identifying element of the profession since its consolidation as a scientific discipline. Hence, this master thesis has analysed the procedures for the register and the use of Health Social History (HSS) in Primary Health Care (PHC) in Cantabria, as well as the professionals' interpretation of the concepts included in the tool and its adaptability to different typologies of social risk. The methodology used has had a descriptive character, combining a quantitative and qualitative approach, and has been based on the application of the survey method. The questionnaire used has been sent to all HSW professionals in PHC. The study revealed the existence of variability with regard to HSS registration procedures and the absence of a general consensus on the concepts, variables and indicators compiled in the HSS. Given the importance of the records for the improvement of scientific knowledge in HSW, the results show the need to further develop a process of analysis and reflection with the HSW professionals which allows to enrich and to redefine the data record conceptually, as well as to organize the use of the tool. Research along these lines will contribute not only to improve the reliability and validity of the analytic tool but also to improve health services evaluation and management.
