Abstract: The project focuses on analyzing the differences between fixed grid distribution and flexible grid distribution within optical networks. The comparison gives us the advantages of the flexible grid, arguing the evolution of optical networks to elastic optical networks. To carry out this analysis, a use case has been established, as well as some basic requirements that the solution has to meet, regarding capacity, efficiency, scalability and cost. Not only the main grid distribution solutions are studied, but also a slight analysis of other alternatives that add value to the final solution, such as Slice architecture, SDM multiplexing and DSDM multiplexing.
