Author: Berganzo Ràfols, Arantxa

Abstract: This work presents the evolution of contemporary muralism from the 1980s to the present day within the framework of the city of Barcelona. Art on the walls is not a new phenomenon in Barcelona, ¿¿as the artistic interventions on the walls commissioned by the town councils themselves date back to the second half of the 20th century. However, Barcelona City Council has not particularly promoted these proposals, favoring others such as installations or public sculptures. In addition, what has developed in recent years is a muralism that was born from the scenes of graffiti and urban art, in parallel with institutional interventions and has maintained a complex relationship with the councils. Since 2006, when an ordinance was approved in Barcelona banning these artistic manifestations, this type of intervention has been channeled through platforms and projects that, arising from different views of what muralism should be. urban, have contributed to a significant increase in these artistic manifestations in the city, with their consequent impact, both social and urban. The proposed TFM aims to study this evolution from a historical point of view, analyze the current situation and assess its impacts and possibilities, both at the urban level and on the social fabric.
