Abstract: Since a few years, remote work has become popular thanks to the current technological framework. The global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has proven to many organizations that remote work can be a viable alternative to onsite work. This Master Thesis explores the paradigm of remote work and the challenges that remote organizations are facing in terms of employee experience, and seeks opportunities and innovative ways to support these organizations and their employees. The aim of this project is to identify the needs of remote employees and design a product or service that helps them increase their wellbeing. To this end, a human-centered design approach has been followed, including research with and without users: analyzing existing papers and projects, interviewing remote employees and benchmarking existing services and products. Based on the outcomes of the research, BuddyBot, a chatbot that acts as a personal wellbeing assistant to remote workers, has been defined and specified; finally, a first version of the chatbot has been prototyped, evaluated with people and revised based on their feedback. BuddyBot is an innovative solution to the problem of managing the wellbeing of remote workers. It focuses on self-reflection and offers support to remote workers in acquiring habits that will positively impact their personal wellbeing.
