Author: Quirós de Andrés, Pablo
Tutor: Rull Ribó, David
Abstract: The Hyksos were the first foreign people to rule Ancient Egypt. For a long time, information about them has been scarce, and it has been highly conditioned by the Egyptian discourse after their defeat. The discoveries made from the second half of the twentieth century to the present have allowed us to reassess its role and critically analyze the information that we thought we knew. Its dominion covered a wide territory, placing its capital in the city of Avaris, and it lasted for more than a hundred years framed in what is known as the Second Intermediate Period. The present work aims to study the factors that made it possible for Egypt to be dominated for the first time by a foreign people, and for it to remain in power for more than a century in a proud country and traditionally averse to foreigners. The available sources will be analyzed to try to establish a state of the art on aspects such as the origin of the Hyksos, their rise to power, their form of government and their mechanisms of domination, their cultural and religious relations with the local population or their activity. commercial, in order to study the factors that made this chapter of Egyptian history possible.
