Abstract: The main intention of this Master's thesis is to propose the necessary modernization to recover old or abandoned railway lines. As justified in the document, the objective is to be able to allocate these lines to the exclusive transport of goods, so that in the medium term full monitoring and continuous traceability of them from origin to destination is allowed, which is not possible nowadays. It focuses exclusively on installations in the field of railway signalling and telecommunications, using the latest technologies in use in the Spanish territory. It focuses on applying new technologies to manage the proper functioning of public and private freight transport systems in a Smart City, through their inter-urban interconnection. This work aims to focus on providing a detail with a sufficient level to be able to develop the necessary signalling and communications infrastructure that allows the passage of freight trains, which is normally the responsibility of the infrastructure manager. The state of the current facilities and the state of the art of the technologies commonly used are analysed from the outset. Subsequently, a selection is made of those that are going to be proposed for installation based on functionality criteria and later, a budget study is carried out, taking as an example a hypothetical line currently abandoned to be put into service again. Once its viability is concluded, the study could serve to present a preliminary draft to the Administration for its technical-economic consideration.
