Title: Sistema d'ignició remot per l'extinció d'incendis forestals

Abstract: Forest fires are a natural phenomenon that have always been present in the Mediterranean ecosystems. Unfortunately, nowadays, global warming and rural abandonment help these fires to become increasing intense and virulent. This change in fire behaviour has made traditional fire-extinguishing methods be insufficient, so this forces us to use the same fire as an extinction method, known as technical fire. Requiring ignition in the course of a forest fire demands well trained crew to chose and perform where and when such ignition occurs. A miscalculated ignition may worsen the fire performance. Often, these ignitions cannot be executed because the optimal moment and location to perform them are not compatible with firefighters safety because of the proximity of the fire front, which causes valuable opportunities to be lost from an strategic point of view. In this project, a device to perform remote ignitions by using a radiofrequency signal was designed. The use of Arduino boards and some other compatible elements makes the resulting device simple, reliable and low cost. Moreover, the results show a good performance in the range where the ignition can be executed, reaching up to 900 m in a straight line when no obstacles are present. Using this device should improve firefighters safety in their forest fire-extinguising tasks.
