Abstract: Background: About 40-50% of infertility (IF) cases worldwide are due to male factors. Male infertility (IFM) remains being a complicated issue to resolve. In effect, different diseases and risk factors seem to be involved. However, the oxidative stress has been identified as one of the main conditioning factors related to abnormalities in the semen quality analysis parameters (PACASE). Because of this, a growing number of studies seem to support dietary antioxidants (AOXID) as a therapeutic micronutrition strategy for IFM. Aims: Analysing the effects of AOXID on the PACASE and certain biomarkers of seminal oxidative stress (BEOS), as well as the dose, the frequency of intake and the time of administration of AOXID in clinical interventions with (in)fertile men. Methodology: After combining keywords in the PubMed database a total of 2446 articles addressed antioxidants and male (in)fertility. However, only 31 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) were selected. Results: Heterogeneous findings were observed after the oral supplementation with vitamins C and E, folic acid, selenium, zinc, omega-3 fatty acids, alpha-lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10, carnitines, lycopene and/or N-acetyl-cysteine. Conclusion: It can be affirmed, up to a point, that the antioxidants analysed show positive effects on semen quality, but more experimental studies are needed to formulate standardised criteria for a more efficient and safer indication of these substances.
