Abstract: This research paper examines institutional and crisis communication during the health and economic crisis that arose as a result of Covid-19 virus spread. The aim is to analyse the strategy applied by the Spanish Government, to study the press conferences of its president, Pedro Sánchez, and to establish a comparison with the briefings held by Andrew Cuomo, governor of the State of New York. From the observation of the theories of crisis communication, an attempt is made to determine which political leader communicates most effectively and efficiently with their target audience. On the one hand, an examination is made of the frequency of their appearances, the structure, the duration and the topics most developed by the two political leaders. On the other hand, their verbal and non-verbal communications are analysed, and a series of flawed aspects on Pedro Sánchez's dude are collected, which could help improve the transmission of this type of messages in future crisis situations.
