Abstract: The Global communication of a museum and the management that it makes of it are basic when determining what strategy a museum will follow to attract visitors and the degree of success it will achieve. Nowadays, where new technologies have taken over our lives, it is essential that museums know how to take advantage of the possibilities that new technologies have to offer, and use them for cultural dissemination. Likewise, in recent decades the management of global communication in museums has undergone a radical change of approach, and institutions leading the preservation of heritage such as UNESCO, advocate to change the approach focusing it more on the visitor, and establishing strategies that allow visitors to understand and enjoy the heritage at all its levels. Accordingly, this work focuses on establishing the appropriate communication in modern art museums, and more specifically in the Valencian Institution of Modern Art, also known as IVAM. This institution, on its almost thirtieth birthday, has always been a trendsetter in Valencia in terms of culture. But how successful is its management of communication? What are the opportunities that have been exploited and which, on the contrary, are being missed? Are there reminiscences of heritage communication that do not add any value to the institution and should be reconsidered? Through these pages we will try to make an assesment of the opportunities and challenges this institution must face, in order to keep on being a national model of communication in heritage management.
