Abstract: Mobility in big cities comes with large amounts of pollution, but with new technologies being able to record traffic flow, new chances arise to counteract this. In this project we consider a set of urban traffic flow sensors which can be used to predict streets with lower traffic, enabling selective pedestrianisation of these from the traffic network and removal from the data set. This allows us to study the flow of traffic and more accurately diagnose potential congestion issues within the new network. In order to achieve this, data is first cleaned and integrated with OpenStreetMaps. Then, the Origin-Destination matrix is approximated using the sensors, all the shortest paths between two nodes, and some constraints to the paths. Then the node and edge effective betweenness from the network is computed. Furthermore, the newly computed betweenness is studied and analysed, and a suitable pedestrianization for the less used streets of the network is proposed, computing its new effective betweenness, to finally analyze its feasibility.
