Abstract: The European Union has always been defined as a normative power in the field of human rights, where it has for years exercised international leadership that serves as an example to the various actors in the international system. However, in the coming years, the organization will have to face major challenges in its sphere of influence, such as the invasion of Ukraine, which will put its commitment to human rights to the test. However, the European Union can take advantage of the current critical juncture to become a relevant geopolitical actor by raising the international protection of human rights not only as a value inherent to its own identity, but also as a true geopolitical instrument that will allow it to consolidate its space in an international system marked by the crisis of the liberal order on which the European integration project is based.
