Abstract: Gender inequality in scientific publications is a well-studied fact, of which there is clear evidence. The main objective of this study is to determine whether gender differences exist in pharmaceutical production in Spain during a period of determined analysis (2018–2021). Methodology. They download Web of Science 5.354 articles corresponding to the desired period of analysis, in the field of pharmacological and pharmaceuticals and written in Spain. After cleaning up data with OpenRefine to obtain the first author of each article and identifying the genre with Gender-API and NamSor, 3.687 articles are obtained in which the first author is part of a Spanish institution. Results. Articles were written by 2,983 different authors of which 1,783 were women (59.77%) and 1,198 men (40.16%). In the period of study, it has been observed that the authorship of articles has gone from 60.47% in 2018 to 56.67% in 2021 as far as women authors are concerned. The same has been observed with the number of citations per article which was higher in women than men in 2018 and 2019 with a 9.5 rati respectively with respect to female authors, while for men the rati was 9.0 and 7.1 respectively. However, in the last two years of study, 2020 and 2021, it has been men who have obtained a higher rate than women, with 6.3 and 4.3 for the years mentioned, while women have decreased to 5.6 and 4.1 for the years 2020 and 2021, respectively. Conclusions. In the pharmaceutical field, first female authors have a higher participation in both the number of authors and in the number of articles in the period 2018–2021, and their great leadership in pharmaceutical production in Spain can therefore be confirmed.
