Abstract: Representation in movies and television is an essential part of our collective imagination, and has been used since its inception to shape the perception we have of certain groups and social strata. If a certain type of person is recurrently pigeonholed in a specific role, this representation can serve both to praise and to demonize. This study seeks to discover whether the representation of hyperfeminine women in fiction has been tainted by demonization, as well as whether there is any relationship between these characters and the LGBTQ+ community. To do this, a total of 25 characters from 16 works contextualized inhigh school that fit within the stereotype of Mean Girl or Bimbo were analyzed, and the results were cataloged in a table with different physical, social and behavioral characteristics. The results showed that the characters who fit these stereotypes are mostly antagonists or minions, they are Caucasian with long hair and slim build, they dress hyper-feminine, they have medium/high socioeconomic status, they move in groups and they are considered promiscuous. Also, 28% were canonically sapphic and 32% suffered from compulsory heterosexuality and/or internalized homophobia, which is a high percentage given the size of the sample. Once the results have been analyzed, it is concluded that there is a negative representation of hyperfeminine characters in fiction, based mainly on harmful stereotypes, and there is also a link between the LGBTQ+ community and these characters.
