Abstract: This work deals with the construction of a research instrument using a questionnaire and its associated cross-sectional study, focused on the recruitment sector in Spain. The objective is to determine the relevant personality traits for each type of job, given that many of the current tools on the market are generic and ask questions that have nothing to do with the job to be developed. To achieve the proposed objectives, this study has carried out a bibliographic review of the main tests used in recruitment processes, has determined the main personality traits and transversal competencies that they analyze, synthesizing the most appropriate ones in a list of 80 items, has identified 8 general job types and asked respondents about the most appropriate traits for each of them. The study also asked about the appropriateness of some of the questions or statements in a Big Five-based generic personality test. The questionnaire was administered online and the sample that participated in the study was 10 men and 13 women, with only 6 of the responses coming from the recruitment sector. Due to low participation, it has not been possible to provide information on the types of tests used in Spain, one of the specific objectives of the study. However, it should be considered that the general objectives have been moderately achieved, as the information obtained has been able to contrast with the theoretical basis that has been used for the elaboration of the instrument.
