Abstract: Many people around the world experience insecurity on the streets in their everyday life. Women tend to suffer the most from this insecurity, as they frequently have to face situations of street harassment and sexual violence, thus losing the right to move freely. Another population group in a vulnerable situation on the street are children, since they do not have the same visual field as an adult nor do they have the same cognitive capacity to recognize possible dangers. That is why some parents end up being overprotective of their children out of fear that something will happen to them. In this context, the idea of designing a street safety mobile app for my Master's dissertation arose. This tool would provide those who need it with a series of functionalities that allow them to walk down the street without fear. Thus, the application would give these people greater freedom and independence. To carry out this design project I followed the user-centered design methodology; in this way, the user could be placed at the center of the work process. The work done has resulted in the creation of the SafeMe app, a product that has been improving its usability through the different iterations that were made. The app allows users to automatically track their route, share their location with their immediate circle or check the safety of an area.
