Title: Veintitrés años después. Análisis de la localización al español de Final Fantasy VII y Final Fantasy VII Remake
Author: Risueño Checa, Mónica
Tutor: Martínez-Carrasco, Robert
Abstract: Video games have become an important part of the entertainment industry. That is why more attention has been devoted to this sector in recent decades. This has created a great contrast between the first localizations carried out and the recent ones. This is the case of Square Enix, the developer behind the creation of both video games analyzed in this work, Final Fantasy VII (1997) and Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020), released twenty-three years apart. Final Fantasy VII is known for its translation full of mistakes, which is why the release of this new game caused great expectations about its new localization. Through a compilation of scenes from both the original game and the remake, a comparison will be made between both Spanish localizations in order to verify the differences. In order to guide this analysis, two objectives are proposed. Firstly, to identify the corrections and modifications that have occurred in the remake in comparison to the original text. Secondly, to compare the Spanish and English localizations carried out in 2020 to check if the translation style is as literal as it was with the first game or not. Both the 1997 and 2020 localizations depend on the English localization, therefore the English text will also be used for both in this analysis.
