Title: NO TOT ÉS GUERRA.Metàfores Conceptuals alternatives a la GUERRA per parlar de la pandèmia de la COVID-19
Author: Constantí Roca, Montserrat
Tutor: Pérez i Brufau, Roger
Abstract: In this work, we will analyse the use of Conceptual Metaphors that have emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of Cognitive Linguistics. We will see how metaphors are not only a literary resource, but are commonly used and are part of our daily live. A great diversity of metaphors has emerged during the pandemic, and the most used is the one related to war (THE PANDEMIC IS A WAR). We will see, indeed, how this metaphor has created controversy because it can have a negative effect on human cognition. However, the metaphor WAR is not the only one that has emerged to talk about something that affected us during the pandemic and confinement, but also there are many more from different domains that we will expose in this work. We will ask ourselves what alternative metaphors can be and whether they can be more positive or can have a more impactful effect on society. We will analyse the metaphors that emerged during this period of our closest history based on the Lakoff and Johnson’s work. Likewise, we will see a wide variety of metaphors that have been used to raise awareness among humanity, and we will value their several areas of use.
