Title: Sistema experto para la interpretación de Espirometría y Difusión pulmonar
Author: Ibáñez Arenas, Fabiola

Abstract: Spirometry and carbon monoxide diffusion capacity are pulmonary function tests that in recent years have increased their demand, both in public and private services. This increase in requests was strongly influenced by the covid-19 pandemic, due to their usefulness in the diagnosis, control, treatment and recovery of this and other pulmonary diseases. In spirometry, there are specific ventilatory patterns according to the norms established by the American Thoracic Society and the European Respiratory Society that determine normality, restriction or obstruction, even when sometimes it is required to be complemented with the evaluation of lung volumes or other tests for a definitive diagnosis. In the same way, carbon monoxide diffusion capacity presents specific patterns of interpretation that indicate normality or mild, moderate or severe decrease. The objective of this project was to design a model to establish a technological platform for a single reporting center for spirometry and carbon monoxide diffusion capacity, based on an expert interpretation system that uses specific established international ventilatory patterns. Thus, it will be possible to determine the accuracy and variability in the interpretation of the model reports compared to those performed by bronchopulmonary physicians working in the pulmonary function laboratory in order to finally validate the system, improving turnaround times and report quality.
