Title: Influencia de las proteínas en la dieta de los pacientes renales

Abstract: In order to counter the increase in overweight and obesity worldwide, a series of diets and dietary patterns have been established that may be beneficial for weight control and diabetes. High-protein diets are increasingly used without any medical control, so it is suggested that, due to their capacity to produce glomerular hyperfiltration, these diets may be harmful in patients with renal insufficiency. For this reason, 17 studies have been analyzed in this literature review with the aim of clarifying the influence of protein intake in patients with renal failure. The results show that control of protein intake is key to control CKD. In the later stages of the disease, a low or very low protein diet supplemented with amino acids ketoanalogues and based on vegetable proteins is the treatment of choice for improving GFR, proteinuria, BP, a better phosphorus control and reducing cardiovascular risk, as well as delaying the progression of the disease. High protein diets in the early stages of CKD seem to have certain benefits especially in weight loss and diabetes control, but due to the lack of studies these results should be corroborated by future research. Finally, we can affirm that these patients should receive exhaustive nutritional advice and follow-up throughout the disease to prevent possible complications.
