Title: La violencia de género en Argentina y el rol de los movimientos sociales en la formulación de políticas de género
Author: Campos Alonso, Sofía Guadalupe
Tutor: Alemany Jordán, María Teresa
Abstract: In May 2015, the murder of 14-year-old Chiara Páez at the hands of her sentimental partner horrified Argentina and led the #NiUnaMenos women's movement to demand support and prevention solutions. Her death was the culminating act of continuous episodes of violence against women, evidenced both in public and private spaces. The demonstrations had such representation in civil society that the debate expanded to the international context. The purpose of this master's thesis is to investigate the role of women as stakeholders in the implementation of prevention and protection mechanisms to address and eradicate gender violence in all its forms. Argentina, due to its high rate of murders against women, serves as an example to explain femicide as a serious social phenomenon, as well as the legislative advances achieved in terms of gender and in the debate generated in its government agenda by the strong feminist activism present in the country.
