Abstract: The paper proposes a critical study of cultural spaces in recent Spain (2015-2020) from the modern institution Centro de Cultura Contemporánea (CCC), consecrated in our country by the CCCB in Barcelona and reformulated throughout the state territory with different appellatives. This conflictive figure, due to its significant impact on the urban habitat and its tendency to self-referentiality, allows us to analyze the different tensions that orbit around the ideas of culture and cultural policies, being fundamental its relationship with the facilities of proximity and popular artistic manifestations, while inviting us to identify a certain paradigm shift that leaves behind the democratizing project of the second half of the twentieth century.
