Abstract: The sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 led to profound social and economic changes. Spanish SMEs were forced to pivot their business models to ensure their continuity. This research project delves into the trends observed in the changes in business models during this crisis. Its primary objective has been to identify the factors behind the initiatives taken by companies; Well, presumably they will consolidate and be the basis of disruptions that were unthinkable before the pandemic throughout 2023.A rapid systematic review made it possible to retrieve and summarize the results of the most relevant research in this field; therefore, twenty-eight articles have been selected from the main scientific databases, Scopus, Mendeley among other documentary sources: this is reflected in the Digital Economy and Society Index 2022 (DESI). Digital Economy and Society Index 2022, provided by the European Commission, annually measures the evolution of the Member States of the European Union in the integration of digital technologies and digital competitiveness. Digital transformation has achieved greater development in large companies, while SMEs are having trouble integrating new digital technologies. However, the number of academic research carried out that focuses on SMEs, is aimed at deepening the study of the digital transformation of these organizations are still scarce.
