Abstract: In recent years, the miniaturization of electronics, regulatory changes, and the emergence of numerous satellite platforms for low Earth orbit (LEO) and very low Earth orbit (VLEO) have significantly transformed the space industry. The increasing amount of information from LEO andgeostationary (GEO) satellites and satellite constellations poses a challenge in terms of the bandwidth of traditional radiofrequency communications, which will soon be insufficient to meet the data transfer needs. Optical communications are a proven Techonology on Earth, where optical signals can be protected from external sources by the physical medium through which they travel. However, between ground stations and satellites, optical signals are exposed to interference from atmospheric phenomena or the passage of aircraft ans similar objects. Optical communication systems must achieve a sufficient signal-to-noise ratio to maintain the link between the transmitter and the receiver. In this project, the regultaions governing lasers in the European space and the existing techniques in thje literature for feeder link protection, which will carry the majority of the traffic, will be studied. A comparison will be made with the obtained results to analyze which technique is most suitable for each link blockage situation.
