Title: El fenómeno de la identificación de altas capacidades femeninas desde una perspectiva de género: un estudio de campo

Abstract: This essay aims to bring up the phenomenon of low identification of gifted girls and women from the clinic and educational domain and make a review of articles from a gender perspective to put on record possible causes and consequences of this phenomenon. This research is defined in this complex situation and its purpose is to closer look the experiences, the biases of these women both the formally diagnosed and the ones with high suspicions of being gifted, the role the environment plays in the definition of intelligence and woman and variables such as psychological wellbeing, personality profile, motivations and characteristics. It looks into the environment where these women have grown up providing light to possible biases and prejudices from educators and family. A mixed methodology is used, whose quantitative approach analyse the variables of 337 women, and from a qualitative perspective, it picks their perceptions and experiences related to the evaluation tests, both extracted from a questionnaire. The results show that there are still biases and prejudices regarding what we understand for masculine – feminine, these women are still a vulnerable minoritarian collective and the differences between diagnosed women and the ones who subjectively state have high suspicions of being gifted is minimum but still statistically significant. This leads us to conclude that it is necessary to keep investigating this collective of women and keep providing information and data about them in research giving the circumstances it still is a field made up of results regarding the masculine gender.
