Abstract: The aim of the project is to analyze the determinants of behavior in the choice of alternative therapies in the context of public health and determine whether the prevalence of their use in individuals who attend public mental health centers is higher than those who attend primary care consultations for other reasons. A descriptive cross-sectional quantitative study is proposed using a self-developed questionnaire called the Questionnaire of Determinants of Behavior in the Choice of Alternative and Complementary Therapies (QDBCACT), consisting of 40 closed items, to analyze the determinants that influence the behavior of choosing alternative therapies from a theoretical perspective based on the Theory of Reasoned Action and the Health Belief Model. A double random sampling process will be used to select the 792 participants to ensure generalization of the results, first by clusters and then by consecutive systematic sampling. The expected results include the identification of the determinants that influence the choice of alternative therapies and the prevalence of their use in the context of public health. Limitations include the use of an online questionnaire, the lack of analysis of the psychometric properties of the questionnaire, and the inability to examine causal relationships that accompanies cross-sectional designs. Despite this, it is expected that the project will contribute to future research and the development of health policies focused on the needs and motivations of individuals.
