Abstract: | The purpose of this research is to analyze the impact and influence of social networks in the development of risky eating behaviors in the young adult population. From this point, the personal experience of the participants is investigated, setting up a direct connection between their perception of the content displayed on social networks in their daily lives and the prevalence of risky eating behaviors, providing a detailed view of the problem in question. Social networks play a significant role in the formation and consolidation of eating habits in the population. In addition, modern technologies have become increasingly relevant, as their use continues to increase. At the same time, eating disorders are still a relevant concern due to their prevalence and severity. The research is conducted within the field of Social Psychology, adopting an exploratory qualitative approach that will be based on the principles and approach of Social Constructionism. For this purpose, 7 women and 3 men, users of social networks and belonging to the young adult population, have been interviewed with a semistructured interview. The key conclusions derived from this study determine that these platforms, through their media exposure to beauty ideals focused on thinness, influence the population's choices and behaviors related to food, generating negative effects on selfesteem and self-concept, linked to body dissatisfaction and comparison. The results highlight the importance of understanding and addressing this problem in our current society, based on the reflections and experiences of the participants who emphasize the transmission of information related to diets, restrictive behaviors, unattainable beauty patterns and the overexposure and overvaluation of the figure and body weight, which produce pressures at a social level. |
