Abstract: Melanoma, an aggressive type of skin cancer, poses a challenge in the medical and scientific fields today. This final master's project is carried out with the aim of gaining a better understanding of this disease and the molecular and gene expression changes that occur during its progression. Identifying these potential changes in gene expression will help reveal alterations in the molecular and cellular processes that contribute to the development of melanoma. It will also provide clues about possible therapeutic targets and biomarkers. To achieve this, a comparative study has been conducted using the R programming language on a sample of data from patients who suffer from melanoma and are in different stages of the disease, including potential relapses. The methodology used involved a combination of manual exploration and selection of gene expression data, followed by their processing in RStudio using a specialized analysis pipeline for this type of data. The results obtained from the different comparisons reveal significant and consistent findings with current studies. Differentially expressed genes are found between the final stages of melanoma 1 and 4, as well as between ulcerated and non-ulcerated melanoma, which is a clear indicator of disease progression. From this work, it can be concluded that there are differences in gene expression throughout the evolution of melanoma. These differences are also reflected in characteristics associated with progression, such as ulceration. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need for multidisciplinary approaches in melanoma research, integrating genetic, clinical, environmental, and personal data from each patient to achieve a better understanding of the disease.
