Abstract: Burnout Syndrome is an occupational disease present in a globalised and digitalised world, where the demands of patients are increasing due to the excess of information that can be obtained through information and communication technologies (ICT). In February 2022, the WHO classified Burnout Syndrome in the new update of the ICD-11 manual (World Health Organization, 2022) as a category exclusive to the workplace in order to facilitate its diagnosis for organisations, as previous manuals did not recognise it as a category isolated from work (Masluk et al., 2016), which meant that emphasis was placed on the characteristics of the individual. The bibliographic review carried out in this report has been conducted on the risk factors and protective factors that are predictors of both the appearance of the symptomatology and the avoidance or elimination of it, with the aim of defining an action protocol that allows organisations to act prematurely in the prevention of burnout. The search was carried out in the search engines Dialnet, Pubmed, APA PsycNet and Google Scholar between August and November 2022. Articles from the last 10 years (2012-2022 included) were selected, with a total of 17 articles reviewed. The results show the variables analysed by the different authors which, in correlation with the subscales of burnout diagnosed through the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), determine the risk of burnout and the protective factors that can prevent it among the workers surveyed at national and international level. The conclusions reached by the authors show that establishing an action protocol based on scientific evidence improves the quality of life of workers, patients and the care service, which has a positive impact on society.
