ScanVerd, una aplicació per al consum sostenible

Abstract

El següent treball analitza la viabilitat d’ScanVerd, una aplicació per avaluar la petjada ecològica en la producció de béns i serveis, i orientar el consumidor sobre l’impacte ambiental de les seves compres. El disseny de l’aplicació aprofita les dades quantitatives que ofereix EMAS, un programa de gestió ambiental de la Unió Europea, per calcular l’indicador ScanVerd. Aquest, permet identificar de manera senzilla quines organitzacions són les que contaminen menys durant els seus processos productius. Com a exemple de funcionament, ScanVerd ha avaluat i comparat el rendiment ambiental de set hotels italians adscrits a EMAS. S’aprofita el disseny de l’indicador per analitzar posteriorment el rendiment ambiental dels estats de la UE amb l’objectiu d’esbrinar quins són els reptes estructurals als quals s’enfronten, a l’hora de fer una transició cap a models de producció més sostenibles. L’anàlisi acaba amb una enquesta poblacional per analitzar quines són les actituds dels consumidors envers el medi ambient, els seus hàbits de consum i l’acceptació d’una eina com ScanVerd. Del treball es conclou el següent. El rendiment ambiental d’organitzacions i estats europeus dels darrers anys no ha anat en la direcció desitjada, més aviat al contrari. Per fer d’ScanVerd una realitat és necessari obligar les empreses a ser transparents en la gestió i en la publicació dels registres ambientals, mesures totes elles molt favorables per part de la ciutadania enquestada.

The following work analyses the viability of the ScanVerd application. An application that assesses the ecological footprint of the production of goods and services, and guides the consumer on the environmental impact of their purchases. The application uses quantitative data provided by EMAS, a European Union environmental management program, to calculate the ScanVerd indicator. This allows the user to easily identify which organisations are the least polluting during their production processes. For example, ScanVerd has been used to evaluate and compare the environmental performance of seven Italian hotels affiliated to EMAS. The design of the indicator is used to analyse the environmental performance of EU states, with the purpose of finding out what structural challenges they face when making a transition to production processes more sustainable. The analysis concluded with a population survey to investigate consumers' attitudes towards the environment, their consumption habits and acceptance of a tool such as ScanVerd. The following was concluded from the work, the environmental performance of European organisations and states in recent years has not gone in the desired direction, in fact it was quite the contrary. To make ScanVerd a reality, it is necessary to force companies to be transparent in the management and publication of their environmental records, all of which are very favourable measures for the citizens surveyed.
