Title: ScanVerd, una aplicació per al consum sostenible
Author: Garcia Gutiérrez, Josep
Tutor: Llobet Dalmases, Joan
Abstract: The following work analyses the viability of the ScanVerd application. An application that assesses the ecological footprint of the production of goods and services, and guides the consumer on the environmental impact of their purchases. The application uses quantitative data provided by EMAS, a European Union environmental management program, to calculate the ScanVerd indicator. This allows the user to easily identify which organisations are the least polluting during their production processes. For example, ScanVerd has been used to evaluate and compare the environmental performance of seven Italian hotels affiliated to EMAS. The design of the indicator is used to analyse the environmental performance of EU states, with the purpose of finding out what structural challenges they face when making a transition to production processes more sustainable. The analysis concluded with a population survey to investigate consumers' attitudes towards the environment, their consumption habits and acceptance of a tool such as ScanVerd. The following was concluded from the work, the environmental performance of European organisations and states in recent years has not gone in the desired direction, in fact it was quite the contrary. To make ScanVerd a reality, it is necessary to force companies to be transparent in the management and publication of their environmental records, all of which are very favourable measures for the citizens surveyed.
