Abstract: | Sign language interpreting is a relatively new profession; moreover, we can find a small number of research studies in companies and business sector. Therefore, the main goal of this study is to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and the burnout suffered by sign language interpreters in Spain. The current study has evaluated an amount of 109 active professionals through a personal information survey, Meliá and Peiró questionnaire (job satisfaction) and Masclach Burnout Inventory (burnout). As a result, it is possible to prove that the 42,28% of the participants deal with high levels of job dissatisfaction. Additionally, the 34,86% and the 29,36% of the survey respondents present high scores regarding emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, respectively. However, only the 11,93% of the participants show a high degree of personal accomplishment. This statistic study can conclude that a significant relationship was revealed between emotional exhaustion and depersonalization concerning job satisfaction. It is also possible to assume that occupational and demographic variable values are not having an influence on job satisfaction regarding sign language interpreters in Spain. Nevertheless, emotional exhaustion is the only variable value that modify job satisfaction level. |
