Title: Diferencias de género en el uso, actitud y percepción de las Tecnologías Digitales entre el alumnado de 1º de la ESO: un estudio de caso

Abstract: The gender digital divide is detectable at an early age. The transition from Primary to Secondary School requires a previous assessment at all levels, also in terms of digital competence, in order to know the starting point of the students and, thus, make appropriate educational decisions. This work aims to determine and analyze gender differences in terms of behavior and perception of the use of Digital Technologies (DT) of students in 1st ESO in a public high school in the Autonomous Community of Euskadi during the academic year 2021-2022, thus being a case study. The research questions revolve around the use and frequency, self-perception and attitude of students with TDs according to gender. Combining quantitative and qualitative methodology, the sample students answered an existing questionnaire that has been adapted for this research. Subsequently, different members of the educational community were interviewed to contrast the data obtained. The data show that there are differences in the use of TD according to gender and that the system of choice of electives in 1st year of Secondary School facilitates the maintenance of this trend, with a much higher percentage of boys opting for TD subjects than girls. Freedom of choice is conditioned by cultural factors that continue to influence gender stereotypes. This aspect should be considered when considering the system of optional subjects by educational centers.
