Title: La visibilitat de l’esport femení en els mitjans de comunicació esportius

Abstract: For centuries, sport was an activity restricted to men and in which women could only participate as spectators. The 20th century was to be, among other things, the one of women's liberation in this aspect, as demonstrated by the figures of the evolution of the participants in the successive Olympic Games. Unfortunately, the era of wars and its social and economic consequences stopped this development, significantly delaying the incorporation of women into the world of sports, especially competition. In the decade of the 80s, when high-level women's sport emerged strongly, journalism had already established too many cliches and ways of doing things that were already expected to be difficult to change. Advances in society and a more progressive and egalitarian mentality brought many women to the same levels of participation and results as their male counterparts. This fact, which at first did not have its correspondence in the presence in the media, began to ask for its own media space which has been arriving in small increments. In this Final Degree Project we want to find out what the current state of this situation is and if there is a clear tendency to make competitions starring women more and more visible. In order to meet this challenge, the news generated in Mundo Deportivo by the various championships of the most media sports in their female and male categories have been analysed. However, interviews have been carried out with athletes and journalists, as well as a survey of the general population to try to establish what the perception is of this situation. All of this has resulted in this document, which aims to produce an understandable guide that shows where we have come from and especially where we are going in terms of the visibility of women's sport in the media.
