Author: Gandoy Valle, Inés

Abstract: In Spain, since the 1970’s, there has been a notable increase in immigraton. The search for more and better job opportunities has become one of the main objectives of those who decide to migrate. In this regard, it should be borne in mind that the exercise of a specific profession or the possibility of occupying a specific job in Spain would depend on several factors, among which, the following would be highlighted: the required academic title and the effective possibility of accrediting compliance with the qualification requirements of the title. For migrants, the possibility of obtaining recognition of their academic qualifications will be decisive in order to be able to apply for qualified jobs. This thesis reflects upon the fact of, whether the full exercise of the right to work of foreign migrants is guaranteed due to the ineffectiveness of current procedures for the recognition of foreign degrees, as well as the effectiveness of the principles of equality and non-discrimination that underline decent work.
