Abstract: | From the "psi" sciences, anorexia nervosa (AN) is defined as an eating disorder characterized by extremely low body weight, irrational fear of gaining weight and a distorted perception of one's own body. According to statistics, this disorder occurs more frequently among women and at an age between adolescence and early adulthood3. The causes of anorexia are multifactorial and among these factors the social and cultural pressure that the current body aesthetic model exerts on people, especially in young women, should be pointed out. The main objective of this work, based on empirical research and theoretical review, is to understand the perception of anorexia by the people who make up the pro-anorexia groups (pro-ANA), very active on specific web pages and social networks. Based on the ethnography of the exchange of information and opinions in these virtual meeting points, the intention has been to question the possibility of understanding anorexia as just another lifestyle, as stated by many of the users of these environments, and not, or not only, as a pathological disorder. What are the symbolic resources on which the pro-ANA proposal is construct? and how is this alternative proposal related to the dominant biomedical discourse? These are the two big questions that have inspired this work. |
