Abstract: Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) exhibits high prevalence rates in women who are victims of gender-based violence, generating significant emotional distress that can hinder their personal and social functionality. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention program with these women, a program framed within Contextual Therapies or second-generation therapies, specifically in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). The program would be conducted in a group format, with the participation of 21 women who have experienced violence and/or emotional abuse from their partners. All women would be diagnosed with PTSD. An intragroup design with pre-post measures would be employed. To assess the intervention, questionnaires such as the Clinical Outcomes In Routine Evaluation-Outcome Measure (CORE-OM) and two specific ACT questionnaires (the Acceptance and Action Questionnaire - AAQ- II and the Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire-CFQ) would be administered. These questionnaires evaluate experiential avoidance and cognitive fusion, respectively, which are key processes underlying ACT. The results should demonstrate a reliable and clinically significant change in PTSD symptomatology, as well as an improvement in the acceptance of private events and increased awareness regarding non-identification with thoughts. Furthermore, discussion revolves around the ACT objective of redirecting the lives of abused women in accordance with their values. On the other hand, the program is also evaluated in follow-up periods at 3 and 6 months, aiming to demonstrate its post- treatment effectiveness. The study would be conducted with a small sample size, excluding other comorbid disorders and symptoms, and with a population that shows high dropout rates. Despite these limitations, it is concluded that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is effective for treating PTSD in victims of gender- based violence.
