Abstract: This master’s degree final project, carried out by the electrical engineer Daniel Martı́nez Morato and directed by Dr. David Jaramillo Cı́scar and Dr. Álvaro Leitao Rodrı́guez, focuses on the analysis of air cooling flow during steel turning, by means of computational fluid mechanics and using the FLOEFD simulation software, student version. The study focuses on the optimisation of this crucial process in mechanical manufacturing, with the aim of improving its efficiency and analysing the feasibility of its implementation to increase the durability of the cutting tool. The paper presents a detailed introduction contextualising the importance of cooling in steel turning and the state of the art in this field, followed by a procedural methodology and an analysis of the results obtained. The conclusions derived from the simulation provide valuable information to understand the scope of this cooling method and to reconsider its implementation in mechanical manufacturing processes in industrial steel machining applications.
