Abstract: | In this work, a videogame of the metroidvania subgenre in side scroll, single player, with 3D-lowpoly aesthetics with 2,5D dimensionality, made in Unity is proposed. It is a metroidvania with a reverse character development, it means, the player starts with a set of skills that will be lost along the game. To avoid boredom due to the lack of options, the lost skills are replaced by others of similar functionality but that require greater skill by the player but that, properly used, bring greater benefits than the original ones. The goal is to design a skill system and a game world that synergize so that, although the difficulty of the game is increased by the absence of skills, fun and challenge go hand in hand throughout the journey. To see if this can be achieved, a working prototype will be implemented. It will serve as a vertical slice for the possible future promotion of the title towards a more complete game. In this prototype, two skills are projected, a ranged attack and a double jump, and their corresponding substitute skills are also implemented: a parry that allows to return projectiles and deflect melee attacks and a jump with parry on objects, enemies or projectiles. This game takes inspiration from some metroidvania games like Hollow Knight and Ori and their two titles, as well as from the soulslike games: Dark Souls, Sekiro, and Lies of P. |
